Population Management during Emergencies Organizational, Communicational, and Psychological Aspects

Background: different factors affect people's behavior and responses in stressful situations and emergencies. Security, rescue, and safety units have to handle the population’s reactions in situations of extreme stress, such as hysteria, panic, and herd behavior.
Purpose of the Workshop: introduce the attributes of behaviors and reactions of a population to emergencies, their effects and implications, and teach the principles and methods that help unit members and teams to handle such reactions.
Leadership Styles at Times of Crisis and Emergencies
Background: since the dawn of history leadership and management styles have been put to the test to find the leadership style that will be optimal for managing crises and emergencies.
Purpose of the Workshop: learn about management models and styles regarding different crises and emergencies.
Interpersonal Communication in Stressful Situations Background: stressful situations involve among other things difficulties and distortions in interpersonal communication. Familiarity with the factors that affect communication and its distortions and knowledge of methods to improve communication may contribute to enhanced communication and interpersonal relations within the organization.
Purpose of the Workshop: introduce the attributes of communication in stressful situations, the factors that interrupt communication, and those that contribute to good communication; learn about the effect of interpersonal relations on communication and the principles and tools that lead to effective interpersonal communication.
Evacuating the Population in Emergencies
Background: evacuating a population from places of danger is a complex task due to emotional, operational, and communicational challenges. Familiarity with the factors that affect the success of the evacuation process, for instance the needs and behaviors of the population that is being evacuated, and knowledge of operational models and methods in this regard may be crucial.
Purpose of the Workshop: learn about the different factors that affect the willingness of individuals and families to evacuate themselves based on experiences in Israel and abroad; specify the factors that contribute to and hinder the evacuation from organizational, psychological, and communicational aspects; learn about populations with special needs and operational methods of evacuating a population at times of crisis and emergencies.
Preparations and Collaboration with Institutions that Deal with Populations with Special Needs in Emergencies Background: emergencies pose substantial challenges for organizations and institutions that deal with populations with special needs. Familiarity with needs, behaviors, and typical reactions in populations with special needs, such as the elderly, the physically and mentally disabled, and the mentally ill, and knowledge of principles and methods of interacting with families, communities, and institutions can assist nursing staffs, security units, and auxiliary forces in preparing and taking care of such populations.
Purpose of the Workshop: provide knowledge and tools to facilitate preparations and interaction with families, communities, and institutions to take care of populations before, during, and after emergencies. This includes the establishment of emergency teams that work with institutions and an examination of possible collaborations with potential auxiliary teams.
